Recurrent Miscarriage
This can stem from a number of causes but quite often it is due to physical exhaustion (which crops up more in secondary infertility). We call this a Qi (energy) deficiency but it can also stem from loss of blood. Often we see women who are tired from working long hours, under stress, and some of those patients are also trying to cope with looking after a young child. We use acupuncture to help re-establish the menstrual cycle after a miscarriage and Chinese herbs are very important for building up the strength in the body. We also recommend that medical tests are carried out where possible into blood clotting factors, chromosomal abnormalities and heavy metal contamination.
Good nutrition is vital for good health and vitality, and some common nutritional deficiencies found in women that have experienced recurrent miscarriages include vitamin E, zinc, and manganese. Pregnancy and breastfeeding in themselves can make women more prone to nutritional deficiencies, and many women who already have one or more children can find themselves often lacking in essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
Heavy metal and copper toxicity are common causes of miscarriage, and a hair mineral test can be carried out to check for these which, if present, can be eliminated using specific nutritional and dietary protocols. Thyroid, female hormone and stress hormone tests can also be useful to identify other reasons for miscarriage occurring – please ask for details.
Herbal medicine can be used on a daily basis to help reduce the negative effects of stress and a busy lifestyle, as well as helping to maintain hormonal balance and good reproductive health. Other health problems that may be impacting on general health can also be addressed using herbal remedies that are specifically chosen to be safe should you become pregnant whilst taking them.
