Medical Herbalism

Herbal Medicine for fertility
Herbalism is one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world and herbalists use use plants in their natural form, avoiding many of the side effects associated with modern medicine.

Many traditional uses of herbal medicines have now been backed up by scientific research, although treatment by a Medical Herbalist is still based on holistic principles.

Herbal medicine has been used for centuries to improve fertility in men and women and have a long history of use for conditions associated with hormonal imbalances such as heavy or irregular periods, endometriosis, and fibroids. They are also extremely beneficial in supporting the body during or after times of stress and improving general health and well-being. They work by nourishing and healing specific organs of the body, for example the reproductive organs or nervous system, enabling them to work more effectively.

Herbs act in a very gentle way, working with the body, and so may take several months to make a noticeable difference. This is particularly the case with hormonal imbalances, which may take 3 to 6 months to correct. However, they are usually very effective and when combined with other therapies such as acupuncture and nutrition, the results may happen more quickly. You should expect to come for an appointment every month when you first start taking herbs, then every 3 to 4 months until the desired goal is achieved.

Herbal medicines are usually taken in the form of tinctures (concentrated liquid extracts), tablets or capsules, or herbal teas and must be taken on a regular basis to be useful.

Medical Herbalists are trained to use herbal medicine alongside other medications and treatments, so don’t worry if you are taking medicine from your doctor, or receiving another type of treatment – there are many, many herbs to choose from, and we will always ensure that any remedies you use are safe and compatible.
